Named in honor of an impressive 300-year-old Jesuit Mission in the picturesque village of Cerocahui, the Hotel Mision is located in a high fertile river valley of apple orchards and vineyards surrounded by The Sierra Madre.

 

You can stroll through the lush courtyards and the adjoining vineyard which produces table wines for the hotel. Then you can warm yourself before a huge stone fireplace in the lobby, enjoy a meal in the dining room or relax in the bar. Guided horseback trail rides are available to a spectacular waterfall, or you can hop on the sightseeing bus to The Majestic Urique Canyon Overlook.

Area Attractions:

Jesuit Mission of San Francisco: Across the street from the hotel is the historic old mission church, with the original altar dating back to the mid-1700's still intact. The village was actually founded in 1694 by Jesuit missionaries.

Cerocahui Waterfall: Experience this five miles round-trip-walk or horseback ride along the river to a beautiful waterfall at the end of a box canyon. Enjoy swimming in the summer. Moderate to difficult hike.

The old Sangre de Cristo Gold Mine: There is an abundance of natural beauty along the way. Moderate to difficult hike, 3 1/2 miles round trip.

Las Cascaditas (the Little Waterfalls): Along the way see a sawmill, some Tarahumara ranchos and an old cemetery. There are nice swimming holes at the waterfalls. Moderate hike, aproximately 2 miles round trip (90 minutes).

Overlook of "El Valle del Leon" (The Valley of the Lion): This moderate hike provides magnificent views of the town and valleys (2 miles round trip).

Cerro del Gallego Urique Outlook: Providing the most sweeping view of Copper Canyon sytem readily available for tourists. Standing at 7,500 ft. elevation look into Urique Canyon, the deepest canyon in the system. The mining town of Urique is nestled below, along the river. [See: Copper Canyon Tours]
